Course Overview

3D Design

Learn to build spaces that feel real and read clearly in a single frame. You will plan a scene from reference and thumbnails, model modular pieces that can be reused without looking repeated, and dress the set with scattered detail, wear, and props that suggest a history. The course covers terrain and vegetation, atmosphere with fog and volumetrics, time of day lighting, camera composition for storytelling, and optimisation so a large scene still renders in reasonable time.

Learning Path

Each level is enrolled separately. Work through them in order, or start at the level that matches your experience.

01
Level 01

Beginner

Purpose

Plan an environment before building it, so the scene has a purpose and a viewpoint.

Outcome

You can block out an environment with believable scale and a clear composition.

What You'll Learn
  • Gather reference and thumbnail the scene from a chosen camera
  • Block out major forms and check scale against a human figure
  • Establish composition and focal point early

02
Level 02

Intermediate

Purpose

Build the scene efficiently with modular assets that do not look repeated.

Outcome

You can build a large environment without modelling every object individually.

What You'll Learn
  • Model modular pieces that combine in many configurations
  • Use scattering and instancing for vegetation, debris, and props
  • Vary rotation, scale, and wear to break visible repetition

Level 03

Advanced

Purpose

Use light, atmosphere, and set dressing to give a place a mood and a history.

Outcome

You can turn a built scene into a place that tells a story.

What You'll Learn
  • Light for time of day and weather using volumetrics and fog
  • Dress the set with details that suggest who uses the space
  • Control colour and value so the eye is led through the frame

Level 04

Expert

Purpose

Deliver environments that perform, whether they are rendered offline or run in real time.

Outcome

You can deliver an environment that a production or engine team can actually run.

What You'll Learn
  • Optimise geometry, textures, and instancing for memory and speed
  • Prepare assets for game engines with correct scale, pivots, and naming
  • Manage large scenes with linked files, versions, and team handover
